Police activity shuts down traffic on I-5 in downtown

SAN DIEGO – A person threatening to jump onto Interstate 5 from an overpass prompted highway officers to block northbound traffic, according to California Highway Patrol.

Traffic heading north on I-5 at Hawthorn Street was at a standstill around 12:45 p.m. after CHP issued a SIG Alert.  Authorities were able to persuade an apparent suicidal man to climb down to safety.

They reopened lanes by 1:15 p.m.
