SAN DIEGO – A young man from Massachusetts died after falling off a paddle board in San Diego Bay, officials said Tuesday.

Ramone Beharrie, 23, was among a group of coworkers from Washington DC paddle boarding near Harbor Island around 7 p.m. Monday. He fell off the paddle board, went under water and did not surface, San Diego County Medical Examiner said.

Divers pulled him out of the water near 1880 Harbor Island Drive. He was pulseless, apneic and advanced cardiac life support measures were initiated, the medical examiner said.

Beharrie was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital. Medics were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead.
