SAN DIEGO -- A man was arrested after vandalizing an ambulance in the Hillcrest neighborhood early Thursday morning.

A witness tells FOX5 that a confrontation ensued around 3:30 a.m. outside the emergency room at Mercy Hospital after the man tried to get a friend admitted into the hospital emergency room.

Officers say the man used an oxygen tank to shatter the ambulance windshield. He also broke off the passenger-side mirror and broke one of the rear windows. The man also tried hitting staff members with the tank, police said.

When officers arrived, they used a stun gun to subdue him. He was taken to a different hospital for treatment.

No further details were released.
