ALTADENA, Calif. – The Millard Campground in the Angeles National Forest above Altadena will be closed through the weekend after a brown bear wandered into a campsite early Saturday and injured a man.
The small bear apparently tried to open a tent while a man was inside looking at his iPad and the tent came down on the victim, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Altadena station.
The camper later noticed that he had a laceration on his forehead and was bleeding, officials said. He was taken to a hospital where he got about 18 stitches on his wound.
Two other campers saw a 120-pound bear running away from the area. Authorities believe the same bear was sighted later in the day and wildlife officials are attempting to trap and relocate the animal.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife ordered the campground closed for 72 hours after the incident, KTLA reported.
