SAN DIEGO — A knife-wielding man took some merchandise and an unknown amount of cash during a robbery at a gas station Saturday in the Kearny Mesa community of San Diego.

The suspect, a man in his 20s, entered a Mobile gas station at 8380 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. at about 6:20 a.m. and selected some items from the mini mart, displayed a knife and approached the store employee, said San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick.

The store employee fled the scene and called police. The suspect took some merchandise and some cash from the register. He then fled on foot, leaving a stolen 2014 Chevrolet Impala parked in the gas station parking lot, Battrick said.

The suspect was described as a 6-foot tall Latino man, who was last seen wearing a black hat and a black shirt.
