2 killed in freeway motorcycle crash

Tow truck takes a motorcycle away on the I-5 in National City after two people died.

SAN DIEGO — Two people on a motorcycle were killed Saturday afternoon on a National City freeway, and the California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert warning motorists to avoid the area.

The crash was reported on the southbound side of Interstate 5 at the transition to eastbound state Route 54 at about 12:30 p.m., according to the CHP. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

A witness told the CHP dispatcher that the motorcycle went airborne and hit a guardrail. The cause was under investigation.

No other injuries were reported, according to a CHP dispatcher.

The names of the people who died in the crash were not released.
