SAN DIEGO -- A 26-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon in Clairemont after police say he broke into an apartment and then bit a bartender at a nearby pub.

Around 3 p.m., police say Darwin Buckner broke into an apartment in the 3200 block of Cowley Way. A man living at the unit, who happened to be an off-duty sheriff's deputy, tackled the intruder. When the deputy ran into a bedroom to grab his gun, Buckner ran off.

Police then got a call from an Irish pub on Clairemont Drive where Darwin allegedly bit a bartender's buttocks before taking a seat at the bar. He was arrested shortly after.

Buckner was believed to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was taken to a local hospital before being booked into jail.
