SAN DIEGO — Someone slashed a man’s face while he was sleeping on a sidewalk in the East Village neighborhood early Thursday.

The victim initially though he was awakened from his resting place in the vicinity of 14th and J streets by a punch in the face shortly after 3:30 a.m., but quickly realized he had been cut along his jawline, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

He told police he saw someone running along J Street toward downtown, but was unable to describe his attacker, according to the officer.

The man was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
