NEW YORK -- A Brooklyn father was charged with torturing his 3-year-old son by burning, whipping and forcing him to kneel on Legos, according to WPIX.

Leonard Decouite, 23, was arrested on Saturday after the boy's grandmother contacted New York police.

Police said the child had “multiple injuries from his father" and was found severely malnourished. He was being cared for at a hospital, WPIX reported.

Decouite hit his son with a belt across his back and face, and whipped a cord on his stomach and back, a criminal complaint said.

Decouite also forced his son to kneel on Legos until he bled, pushed the child under hot water until his feet started to burn and put out lit cigarettes on the child's legs and stomach, the complaint said. He also allegedly shot the child in the foot with a BB gun three times.

According to the complaint, the child had second-degree burns on his hand and feet and permanent scarring, bruising, swollen cheeks and marks to the legs and back that appear to be caused by a lighter or cigarette.

Decouite has 14 prior charges, police said. In November, he was charged with criminal sale of marijuana.
