SAN DIEGO – The shelter-in-place alert at San Diego State University was lifted following the arrest of a possibly armed man about a mile from campus, police said.

Police found a man, believed to be armed, hiding in bushes after he crashed a car on Interstate 8 Tuesday morning.

The driver possibly being chased by San Diego police on westbound I-8, near San Diego State University and Alvarado Hospital, crashed a silver sedan into a guardrail around 10:30 a.m., authorities said. He ran away from the wreck.

Police asked for additional patrols to help find the man. They did not disclose any details about their investigation.

SDSU officials sent an alert asking people to shelter-in-place as police searched.  SkyFOX captured his arrest just before 11 a.m.

Traffic near College Avenue exit was moving slowly.
