Man threatens to blow up apartment with natural gas
FALLBROOK, Calif. – An emotionally disturbed man prompted a six-hour standoff with deputies Tuesday when he flooded his apartment with natural gas and threatened to set the apartment on fire, authorities said.
The standoff began around 5:15 p.m. at an apartment complex located in the 800 block of East Alvarado Street. Deputies evacuated nearby residents to a church while crisis negotiators unsuccessfully attempted to convince the man to come out of the apartment.
At 11:38 p.m., deputies entered the apartment and subdued the man, who attempted to resist arrest. He was taken to Tri-City Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and a 72-hour mental health evaluation.
No one else was injured.
