EL CAJON, Calif. -- Some El Cajon residents are rattled after they say a thief went up and down their street, getting into unlocked cars to steal belongings.

Surveillance video from a home on Dorado Lane shows a man trying to get into cars around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 22.

Ian Moyers said the stranger got into his wife's SUV.

“All the papers in her vehicle were thrown everywhere -- her purse was missing," said Moyers.

The thief got into several unlocked vehicles and stole purses, wallets and credit cards.

“We’re afraid of – he has all of our information. So ID theft is the next issue," said Moyers.

Neighbors are looking closely at the video but said they do not recognize the man.

“It doesn’t make you feel real good when someone is creeping around your neighborhood at 2:30 in the morning," said Julia Bojevsky.
