Lifeguards use crane to hoist swimmer from Sunset Cliffs surf.

SAN DIEGO – A man walking near the foot of a bluff at Sunset Cliffs Thursday got washed into the water and needed to be rescued, lifeguards said.

San Diego lifeguards went to Pappy’s Point, near the terminus of Osprey Street, around 12:45 p.m. to help a man in who became stranded in the surf.  He tried to swim into the beach area, but couldn’t make it on his own, a fire department spokesman said.

A crane was used to help the him get back to shore.

The man was not seriously injured and walked away with scrapes and bruises, lifeguards said.
