Oceanside City Council votes to widen bike paths along Coast Highway
OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The death of a 12-year-old boy killed while riding his bike to school has Oceanside residents asking for changes to South Coast Highway.
The Oceanside City Council Wednesday night unanimously approved a plan to widen bike paths between Oceanside Boulevard and Morse Street. The changes would reduce the current driving lanes.
An online petition urges city leaders to support lane reduction, construction of a buffered bike lane and mid-block crosswalk.
The proposal was introduced after Logan Lipton was hit by a pickup truck that was pulling onto South Coast Highway on October 22. Lipton died at the hospital.
