NATIONAL CITY, Calif. – A man, who allegedly called 9-1-1 and admitted to dispatchers he had killed his wife, made his first court appearance Monday.

Jose de Jesus Hernandez, 43, pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife Angelica Hernandez.

Just after 10 p.m. on December 29, officers found Hernandez’s wife with a stab wound to her chest.  Paramedics tried to revive the 38-year-old, but she died before getting transported to a hospital, investigators said.

Hernandez, who is a Mexican national, was arrested at the house. One neighbor says there was no sign of domestic abuse and that Hernandez was very nice.

The couple’s three little girls were not home and with their grandparents at the time of the incident. They are still with them.

The judge ordered Hernandez to be held on $2 million bail.
