SAN DIEGO -- Dozens of people got a chance to literally stand inches above the pounding surf in Ocean Beach.
The OB pier provided a platform and safe haven as the big surf slammed into and under the pier.
Onlookers could only gaze in amazement as the waves rolled through.
"It's beautiful, you have to respect it, but it is gorgeous out there, scary too," said Ronnie House who was at the pier with his wife Kathy.
The storm moving into San Diego is bringing higher than normal surf to the coast.
A second swell is due by late Wednesday that will create sets of surf up to 15 feet high.
The high surf is a delight for surfers who will get to enjoy the huge waves through Friday.
Lifeguards are warning people who aren't strong swimmers and/or surfers to stay out of the water.
