Driver cut from wreck after car slams into building
SAN DIEGO — Rescuers had to cut the roof off of a wrecked car to save the driver after he flipped the vehicle and crashed into a building.
The driver was getting off state Route 163 as it transitioned into 10th Avenue when he lost control of his Toyota sedan and slammed it into a parked car. His car then flipped onto its side and skidded into a building at the corner of 10th and A Street, according to police.
Firefighters had to cut the man from his car. Police believe the driver maintained freeway speeds even as he transitioned onto city streets from the 163 and lost control before the crash.
The vehicle he rear-ended was unoccupied, but was badly damaged in the crash.
The driver was taken to the hospital with major injuries. Traffic on 10th Avenue was diverted during the cleanup.
