The discovery in the 6800 block of Waite Drive was reported shortly after 9 a.m., according to San Diego police. Homicide detectives were called in to investigate the circumstances of the fatality, Officer Travis Easter said.
Investigators said the bludgeoned and bloody body of a 43-year-old man was found in the backyard of the home. At least three people live in the house, but it wasn't clear if the victim was a resident, they added.
Police took six people downtown for questioning, but they did not say if any of them were considered suspects.
Residents told FOX 5 that the neighborhood was relatively safe, but the house where the body was found was an eyesore and considered dangerous because people came and went at all hours of the day and night.
The dead person's identity and details about the death were not immediately available.
