GuardrailSAN DIEGO – A woman suffered only minor injuries Thursday morning when  she impaled her car on a guardrail on a freeway in Kearny Mesa, the CHP said.

The woman crashed into the guardrail on southbound Interstate 805 in Kearny Mesa around 5:30 a.m. The guardrail  entered the Nissan Sentra underneath the front hood and then shot all the way through the car, exiting out its back windshield.

The driver was not seriously hurt but was taken to Sharp Memorial hospital. She was unsure how the crash happened, the CHP said. After the woman was treated at the hospital, she was arrested and booked into Las Colinas Women’s Detention Center on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Workers were able to tow the vehicle and reopen all lanes by 7 a.m.
