COCOA BEACH, Fla. – A 28-year-old woman standing in waist-deep water was bitten by a shark at South Cocoa Beach Sunday, authorities said.

Brevard County Fire Rescue officials said the woman was near South 11th Street and wading in the water when she felt the shark bite her, FOX 35 reported.

Paramedics took her to Holmes Regional Medical Center to be treated for a 6-inch wound to her ankle, according to WFTV.  The victim had been visiting Florida.

“I looked over at her and she said, ‘Somebody help me.’ I saw the fin come up and slap her in the face. She said, ‘It got me.’ So I grabbed her hand and dragged her back to the shore,” visitor Holly Peterson told news stations.

Authorities said the shark was probably 3 to 5-feet long, WFTV reported.
