EL CAJON, Calif. – Two people were out of their home Monday after a fire started in the attic of their El Cajon home, the Lakeside Fire Department said.

Firefighters arrived just before 3 a.m. to the home at 1437 Peerless Drive in Alpine. They noticed smoke but had trouble locating the source of the blaze. Fire crews eventually spotted flames in the home’s attic, which they were able to quickly knock down and prevent from spreading to the rest of the home.

Firefighters from the Lakeside, Santee, and El Cajon fire departments all fought the blaze.

Both residents of the home escaped safely.  Investigators were still trying to determine what started the fire. The Red Cross was at the scene assisting those displaced.

No one was hurt.
