Ruptured pipe creates sinkhole in neighborhood

SAN DIEGO - A ruptured water main flooded a street in Lomita, a residential neighborhood south of Lemon Grove Wednesday.

Utility crews are working to repair a ruptured water main in the 700 block of Sunnyside Avenue in the Lomita district of eastern San Diego, according to the San Diego Public Utilities Department.  The break was reported at 11:30 a.m.

There are no reports of structural flooding.  Traffic was blocked from the street as crews repaired the damages, which were expected to be repaired by 9 p.m.

The water main was installed by city officials in 1953.
