Frank Jeffers

SAN DIEGO — Authorities asked the public Wednesday for help in locating a fugitive suspected of shooting another man in the leg in a Morena-area neighborhood last weekend.

Frank Lett “Tex” Jeffers, 28, allegedly opened fire on the victim with a 12-gauge shotgun near the intersection of Buenos Avenue and West Morena Boulevard about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, according to San Diego police. The motive for the attack was unclear.

Medics took the wounded man to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. The victim, whose name was withheld, identified Jeffers, who sometimes goes by the alias “Joseph Ferrell,” as the alleged assailant.

Jeffers is a 5-foot-9-inch, roughly 150-pound white man with blond hair, hazel eyes and a tattoo on the left side of his neck. He should be considered armed and dangerous, according to authorities.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
