The man, who police said was in his 40s, was heard pounding on the doors of the women's housing unit at 16th Street and Market Street around at 1:50 a.m. Security guards called police after asking the man to leave.
The man eventually walked outside and stood staring at a wall a few feet from the entrance. He refused to cooperate with police and would not let officers touch him, continually shaking his head when they approached him. The man then quickly turned and faced police. They released a police dog, which bit the man. He was treated for the bite and arrested.
Police believe the man may have been off his medication.
It was unclear if the man lives at the housing community. No one was hurt.
