LAKESIDE, Calif. — Crews got full lines of control late Friday around the remnants of a wildfire that charred about 170 acres near Barona Casino.

The blaze erupted for unknown reasons off Akuunyaa Way in the Lakeside area shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to Cal Fire. The flames caused no reported structural damage while moving across brushy hillsides and ravines east of San Vicente Reservoir but left two firefighters with minor injuries.

The blaze, dubbed the Wildcat Fire, threatened some back-country homes for a time, forced a closure of a stretch of Wildcat Canyon Road and prompted deputies to clear people out of seven homes in the southeastern reaches of Barona Indian Reservation as a precaution.

Hope the fire fighters recover their from their ‘minor’ injuries. I’m happy no one lost their homes or other important buildings.
