Teen crashes after joyride in parent’s stolen car
CHULA VISTA, Calif. – A teenager was recovering Friday morning after stealing his parent’s car and crashing it into a parked truck and a fence, Chula Vista police said.
The teenager, who was between the ages of 13 and 15, reportedly got into an argument with his parents and then stole their car. Not long after he slammed the Mazda sedan into a parked Dodge Ram truck.
Undeterred, he continued driving down East Palomar Street in Chula Vista before losing control on Monarche Drive and crashing into an iron fence . The impact of the crash smashed out the Mazda’s rear window and caused the airbags to deploy.
The boy got out of the car and walked away from the scene, witnesses said. Chula Vista police called the owners of the car, who told them it was missing along with their son.
He was found a short time later and taken to Rady Children’s Hospital after complaining of back and neck pain. No one else was hurt. Alcohol was not a factor, according to police.
