Fire tears through Mission Valley apartments

SAN DIEGO - A 2-alarm fire tore through a Mission Valley apartment complex early Friday morning, according to San Diego fire.

Firefighters arrived at the 2-alarm fire at the apartments at 6584 Friars Road just west of the Fashion Valley Mall around 6 a.m. The fire spread to the attic of the apartment complex and crews worked for about half an hour before the fire was knocked down around 6:30. At least seven fire engines were called to the scene to assist in dousing the flames.

Five adults and two children were evacuated from the fire, according to San Diego fire. At least four units in the apartment complex were effected, three of which were occupied and one of which was vacant.

San Diego police were also on-scene for traffic control as Friars Road was shut down between Via Las Cumbres and Fashion Valley Road. All lanes remained closed as of 6:30 a.m.

It was unclear what started the fire. No injuries were reported.
