SAN DIEGO - Military police arrested a driver who hopped a fence onto Naval Base San Diego Thursday after crashing into another car, authorities said.

Police blocked Main Street between Una and Vesta streets after a gold Acura sedan smashed into the rear of a gold Suzuki SUV at about 4 a.m. The impact of the crash caused the SUV to overturn and demolished the front end of the Acura.

The driver of the Suzuki, a 39-year-old man, suffered cuts to his head, but he was conscious and talking when paramedics took him to UCSD Medical Center for treatment. His injuries did not appear life-threatening, police said.

Main Street was closed between Una Street and Vesta Street after police learned the driver fled onto Naval Base San Diego. Military police arrested a suspect sometime before 8:30 a.m.
