VALLEY CENTER, Calif. – Water crews were working to fix a broken water main in Valley Center that shut down a road and caused a large sinkhole, the CHP said.

Water began shooting into the air around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on McNally Road and Carney Road. The Valley Center Fire Department and County Roads were on-scene and shut down the road after the water main break created a sink-hole big enough for a car to drive into. The geyser was shut off around 3 a.m.

Homes in the area were without water while crews worked to fix the leak. County Roads was bringing in a large amount of gravel to repair the road.

The cause of the break was being investigated.
