LOUISVILLE, KY – An investigation was launched after a school bus dragged a young girl at least 100 feet down the road Friday in a suburb of Louisville.
The 5-year-old girl from Wilkerson Elementary School was getting off the bus around 4 p.m. on Friday when her backpack got stuck in the door, Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell told WAVE-TV.
The bus dragged her about 100 feet until the driver of a red Chevy Camaro sped up to the bus slamming on the horn, police said.
Mitchell said the child suffered road rash and was taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital for treatment, WAVE TV reported. The girl’s condition has not been released, but she’s expected to recover from her injuries.
Surveillance video from neighbor Tom Carman’s home shows the girl being dragged along the ground, hanging from the door of the bus. Carman questioned how the driver, who sat only feet away from the door, didn’t see the child.
Police were investigating the incident.
