SAN DIEGO – Two people died after a wrong-way driver collided with two other vehicles on northbound state Route 163 early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The collisions occurred on SR-163 just south of Interstate 8 in Mission Valley at 1:35 a.m., California Highway Patrol reported.
The driver of a Ford F-350 was driving the wrong-way and crashed into a Prius with five people inside, a witness said. The 23-year-old driver of the Prius and a 24-year-old passenger died.
Three other people inside the Pruis were taken to the hospital, where two of them are listed in critical condition, authorities said. The third victim suffered moderate injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital to be treated for unknown injuries, then later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.
No identities were released.
