CHULA VISTA, Calif. – A woman was in the hospital Thursday morning after crashing her Lexus into a fire hydrant and causing a 50-foot geyser of water, police said.

The crash occurred on Olympic Parkway near Brandywine Road just before 6 a.m. The road was shut down in both directions as firefighters used the jaws of life to rescue the woman who was trapped in her car.

She was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Water crews managed to shut off the geyser not long after the crash.

Westbound traffic at Olympic Parkway was diverted to northbound Heritage Road, but all lanes were reopened before 7 a.m.

Police were looking into what caused the crash.
