SANTEE, Calif. — A fire blackened a patch of brush Friday alongside state Route 125 in Santee.

The non-injury blaze near the southbound lanes, south of Prospect Avenue, was reported shortly before 9 a.m., according to Heartland Fire & Rescue and the California Highway Patrol.

The fire — which closed two southbound lanes of Route 125 — scorched an area of about 200-feet-by-50-feet before it was being knocked down about 20 minutes later, authorities said.
