SAN DIEGO – Two people were recovering in the hospital Wednesday morning after a driver slammed into their truck and flipped it onto its side, the CHP said.

A red sedan rear-ended the Toyota pickup truck at the transition from Interstate-15 to SR-94 south of North Park at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday. The truck ended up flipping onto its side and the other vehicle flipped onto its roof.

The driver of the sedan ran from the scene into a nearby canyon and remained on the loose Wednesday morning. One person in the truck was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in La Jolla with serious injuries and another with minor injuries, according to the CHP.

No description of the driver who ran from the crash was available. Police were investigating if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
