SAN DIEGO — A 58-year-old University Heights man was in custody Thursday after accidentally shooting his 38-year-old roommate in his left hand during a dispute over the younger man’s alleged drug use, police said.

The shooting at 2244 Madison Ave. was reported at 8:36 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

“The two males were arguing over the 38-year-old being high on meth and trashing the apartment,” Delimitros said in a statement. “The 59-year-old suspect pulled out a shotgun and a fight ensued over it. The victim grabbed the barrel of the gun and it went off.”
