SAN DIEGO — A motorist who refused to yield to the California Highway Patrol for speeding in Mission Valley Tuesday led officers on a 15-minute chase that ended with his arrest in the Fairmount Park area.

The pursuit began on Interstate 8 near I-805 about 9:45 a.m., CHP spokesman Robert Catano said.

The driver fled to the east, then south on I-15 for several miles before exiting onto University Avenue in City Heights. He then crisscrossed over various city streets in a generally southerly direction as CHP personnel and San Diego police tailed him.

Reaching a dead-end on Ash Street, near Bridgeview Drive, he steered the silver 2003 Lexus IS300 he was driving off the roadway and onto a brushy slope at the edge of a ravine above northbound State Route 15, just north of SR- 94, Catano said.

CHP officers and San Diego police then arrested the man at gunpoint. His name was not immediately available.

No collisions or injuries were reported, Catano said.
