SAN DIEGO -- A 29-year-old man who was involved in an early-morning brawl near Horton Plaza last weekend died of his injuries, police reported Thursday.

Patrol officers responding to reports of a group fight in the 400 block of G Street about 2 a.m. Sunday saw several people running off and found Eric Hatcher of San Diego lying unconscious in the middle of the street, SDPD homicide Lt. Mike Hastings said.

Medics took Hatcher to a hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. He has since died, according to Hastings, who did not specify the time or location of Hatcher's death. An investigator with the county Medical Examiner's Office said the case was "sealed."

Investigators have been looking for a "person of interest" in connection with the fatality, the lieutenant said. The unidentified man was described as white, 25 to 30 years old, about 5-foot-9 and roughly 165 pounds.

Hatcher, the victim, had no marks on his hands, face, head or anywhere. Did anybody see what happened that can explain that.? This is a confusing story.
