Driver survives plunge down 30-foot cliff

SAN DIEGO -- A woman was hospitalized early Monday after driving her small SUV over a 30-foot cliff.

The Mazda Tribune hit a light pole and plunge down a steep embankment near Mount Acadia Boulevard and Snead Avenue in Bay Park at about 1:30 a.m.

The woman managed to free herself from the SUV before rescuers arrived. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Police were trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the single-vehicle crash.
