Motorcyclist seriously injured in collision
CARLSBAD, Calif. — A 27-year-old motorcyclist was severely injured Saturday in a collision on a coastal Carlsbad roadway.
The driver of a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle, a Carlsbad man, was heading north on Carlsbad Boulevard behind a 2014 Ford Focus sedan around 7:45 a.m. As the man driving the sedan was turning right onto Solamar Drive, the motorcyclist struck the car’s passenger side and was ejected, Carlsbad police Lt. Mickey Williams said.
A police sergeant conducting a traffic stop nearby heard the collision and provided medical aid to the injured motorcyclist until medics arrived and took him to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla to be treated, Williams said.
Williams said alcohol was not a suspected factor in the crash. The sedan driver was identified as 50-year-old English subject.
Northbound Carlsbad Boulevard was closed between Island Way and Solamar Drive following the crash, Williams said.
