UTC stabbing suspect captured

SAN DIEGO — Police Thursday arrested a man suspected of stabbing a stranger without provocation in University City and then eluding a SWAT team that surrounded his grandmother’s home, authorities said.

Odie James Miller, 20, was taken into custody at Broadway and Park Street in the East Village at about 10:45  a.m. after a brief struggle, police spokesman Umberto Hernandez said. No other details about the arrest were immediately available.

Miller allegedly attacked a 44-year-old man in the vicinity of Renaissance Avenue and Towne Centre Drive near the Westfield UTC mall around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego police. The victim suffered non-life-threatening stab wounds to his head, neck, torso, arms and hands, police said.

Earlier Thursday, police converged on a home in the 4300 block of Rolando Boulevard near Malcolm Drive, after receiving information that Miller was there. When officer eventually entered the house, Miller was not there.
