EmergencyLandingGillespieEL CAJON, Calif. — A small private plane carrying two adults and two children made a safe emergency landing at Gillespie Field Thursday morning.

The pilot of the single-engine plane radioed the control tower at about 9:25 a.m. that his engine’s oil pressure had dropped and smoke was coming from the engine compartment. He landed safely, and he, a woman and two children exited the plane and waited nearby until airport employees towed the plane off the runway.

A Heartland Fire and Rescue crew checked for fire but determined that the smoke was caused by oil leaking onto the hot engine area.
