EL CAJON, Calif. — An investigation was underway Thursday into the death of a man found in an El Cajon hotel room suffering from a stab wound, police said.

Someone called 911 about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday and reported there was possibly a fight going on at the Villa Embasadora Hotel at 1556 E. Main St., and a man was bleeding and had become unresponsive, according to El Cajon police Lt. Frank La Haye.

Arriving officers found the victim in a room with a stab wound, La Haye said. He was taken to a hospital to be treated, but later died. His name was withheld pending family notification. The man was around 28 years old, police said.

La Haye said a shirtless man covered in what appeared to be blood was seen leaving the hotel, but it was unclear how he was involved in the incident.

A description of a suspect was unavailable.

Anyone with information on the stabbing was asked to call the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-3311, or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
