Tony Gwynn StatueSAN DIEGO — Plans to host a free screening of World Cup soccer matches at Petco Park on Monday and Tuesday have been canceled in light of the death of baseball legend Tony Gwynn.

City officials had originally planned to show the U.S. match against Ghana Monday at 3 p.m. on the big screen at the Park at the Park. The match between Mexico and Brazil was scheduled to be shown there on Tuesday at noon.

Instead, the Padres announced that the Park at the Park will be open until 11:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for San Diegans to pay their respects at the statue of Tony Gwynn.
