Injured hiker airlifted off mountain

Hiker Rescue on Mt. WoodsonPOWAY, Calif. — A sheriff’s helicopter crew came to the rescue of a hiker who fell and suffered a broken leg Monday on a trail on Mount Woodson.

A woman was hiking on the trail up the mountain from Lake Poway with two companions when she suffered the fracture. Her friends called 911 shortly after 11:30 a.m., sheriff’s officials said.

The helicopter crew hoisted the victim up to the aircraft and took her to an ambulance waiting down by the lake. She was taken to Pomerado Hospital for treatment.

The circumstances of the hiker’s fall were unclear.
