DEL MAR, Calif. – The surfer who died in the waters off of Del Mar Beach was identified Sunday.
Rob Leard, 36, was a man who loved this family and the ocean, according to friends. A Facebook page in his name was created Sunday evening in memoriam.
Leard from Cardiff died after falling from his board in the waves near 20th Street Saturday morning. Another surfer pulled him from the water to the shore, authorities said. Lifeguards and an off duty emergency room physician attempted to resuscitate him, but to no avail.
His family said he had a history of seizures and it may have caused his death.
The official cause of death was not immediately released.
