POWAY, Calif. — A landscaper suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday when a car hit him on a street near Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club, authorities reported.

ambulanceThe 41-year-old man was operating a leaf blower in a bicycle lane on a curving stretch of Twin Peaks Road in Poway when the eastbound 2004 Lexus ES330 struck him shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to sheriff’s officials.

There was no indication that the 81-year-old woman driving the luxury sedan braked prior to impact, Sgt. David Cheever said.

Medics took the victim, whose name was not released, to Palomar Medical Center, where he was admitted in critical condition.

Investigators found no evidence that intoxication played a role in the accident, Cheever said.
