The Department of Homeland security has issued a warning for domestic and international airliners heading to the winter games in Sochi. Officials say there is a possibility of terrorists trying to hide explosive materials in toothpaste or cosmetic tubes. The information comes just weeks after a travel warning related to a “black widow” terrorist potentially targeting the games.
“It is a real grave concern to hear a threat of this nature. You basically want to know more,” said Mitt Romney. He spoke from the winter games late Wednesday warning terrorist of “serious consequences,” if they strike the games.
Dozens of pictures have gone viral of “unsatisfactory living conditions” in Sochi. Photos of unfinished buildings, horrible hotel rooms, and undrinkable water have gone viral. The most popular images are of stray dogs in the olympic park area. Officials say the dogs are being eliminated by a pest control company in hopes one doesn’t walk into the opening ceremony as it is being broadcast around the world. Animal lovers are up in arms about what they are seeing in Sochi.
San Diegans are also disappointed because snowboarder Shaun White announced his is skipping out on the slope style event. White says he made the call because of “the risk of potential injury.”
“He is at the top of his sport, so if he is dropping out it must be for a good reason,” said White fan and longtime skateboarder, John Decker.
The USS Midway is hosting an opening ceremony watch party at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and features former olympic athletes, snow, a skating rink and other winter sports for kids.
