SPRING VALLEY — Two teenagers face charges in the death of a 61-year-old man who was beaten with a skateboard during an attempted robbery.

Javier Garcia, 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile were scheduled to appear in El Cajon court Wednesday. Both are expected to be charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily harm, attempted robbery and other crimes for the attack on Daniel Sparks, who died after an attack earlier this month in Spring Valley.

Investigators say they duo is suspected of at least two similar attacks, and there may be other victims who have yet to come forward.

“We believe there were two teenagers, one 18 and one 17 years old, and that they approached victims, attempted to rob them and then struck them in the head with a skateboard,” Sheriff’s Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have been accosted by the pair to contact the Sheriff’s Department.
