crash-graphicSAN DIEGO – A 24-year-old man was critically injured Saturday when his speeding car slammed into a tree in the Serra Mesa section of San Diego, police said.

The driver was operating a 2004 Mitsubishi at an unsafe speed, heading north on Kearny Villa Road from Aero Drive about 6 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, San Diego police Officer David Stafford said.

The man suffered massive internal injuries and was taken to a trauma center for treatment, Stafford said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, he said.
