SAN DIEGO — Three people were injured early Tuesday in a four-car pileup on Interstate 805 that began with one motorist crashing into a center divider and ended with three more motorists crashing into wreckage from the first accident moments later, authorities said.
The pileup on northbound Interstate 805, north of University Avenue, occurred around 3:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The motorist who struck the center divide for unknown reasons exited the vehicle and safely made it to the right shoulder before the other motorists crashed, the CHP reported.
Paramedics took three people to hospitals, a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher said. The extent of the injuries was unclear.
A SigAlert was in effect. The CHP diverted traffic off northbound I-805 to El Cajon Boulevard
